PAYMENTS ACCEPTED

We accept all major forms of payment — cash, check, and debit or credit cards. We do not accept American Express.

We also accept Health Savings Accounts.

To save time and avoid payment conversations, our Client Portal allows you to directly make debit or credit card payments through a 24-hour self-service platform.

You can also set up an Auto-Pay feature through our Client Portal payment platform, where you are billed each night on a day where you attended an appointment with us.

No Surprises Act

In December 2021, Congress passed the No Surprises Act. It was mainly intended to reduce unexpected medical bills for patients (as example: you have surgery that is covered by your insurance and then get a huge bill from the anesthesiologist, who turns out to be out-of-network for your plan). This law goes into effect January 1, 2022.

The basics of the requirements are already in place for almost all private practice therapists, as our professional associations have strong ethical standards requiring us to:

o    inform our clients of fees before commencing treatment

o    make it clear that, if you have insurance, you have the option to seek a provider within your network at a lower fee, and

o    allow clients who choose to work with someone out-of-network to receive a “superbill” which can be submitted for possible partial reimbursement, depending on the policies of your individual plan (superbills also contain diagnostic codes, which are another requirement of this new bill)

Some requirements of this legislation are expanded from the above. According to this law, we are required to provide a Good Faith Estimate, to predict total costs in advance of treatment. This would make sense for something like setting a broken bone, but as you undoubtedly realize, psychotherapy does not generally work like that. We might have an idea what the trajectory of treatment for a particular issue will be, based on experiences with other clients, but we cannot know exactly what might lie beneath the tip of iceberg that initially brings someone to see a psychologist, or what other concerns might arise during the course of treatment. Like most private practice psychologists, I submit charges each session, so there are no hidden costs. We will work together to determine an estimate over the course of a year.

I always try to keep paperwork to a minimum to reduce additional stress that such things tend to cause. As far as I can see at this point, none of this will impact what we actually have been doing in therapy, and I anticipate we will be able to start or continue without any interruptions.

Warmly,

Dr. Tackett

OUT-OF-NETWORK

Some health insurance or employee benefit plans will have out-of-network options that cover a percentage of your costs. Check your coverage carefully and make sure you understand their out-of-network options.

We can provide you with a Statement for Insurance Reimbursement, also known as a Super Bill, which you can submit to your health insurer as a request for reimbursement.

There are apps and websites such as Better, which allow you to upload photos of your medical bills and they will file the claim for you — they only get paid when you get paid.
